What does Kerah do when it cannot read an ingredient?

It warns. The scanner is deliberately fail-closed: an unresolved ingredient never produces a "safe" result. You are told what could not be read and asked to check the label.

Is this a substitute for medical advice?

Per-person verdicts

The same biscuit can be fine for you and blocked for your daughter. Kerah shows both, named, instead of one combined answer that helps nobody.

Fails closed, always

If an ingredient cannot be resolved, the answer is a warning — never a clear. An honest "we could not verify this" is more useful than a confident answer that might be wrong.

Warn or block, your choice

Warn mode shows the risk and lets you decide. Block mode removes unsafe items from plans, swaps and search entirely. For severe allergies, block.

Precautionary labelling included

"May contain" and shared-line warnings are surfaced, not silently dropped — they are the ones that matter most for a severe allergy.
